Sharjah wholesale vegetables and fruits market is considered to be a significant addition to the emirate markets, which comprises many more varieties providing lots of selections and alternatives to the consumer. It is expected that it will effectively revive the trade and commerce movement in the emirate.

The market is located in the industrial area No 5, 1 km away from the downtown. This location was selected for 2 main reasons, first, it is easily accessible from all directions of Sharjah, and second, refrigerated vehicles will easily access the area from the Emirates road without being obliged to enter into the city avoiding any traffic-jams.

The gross area allocated for the market is 100.000 square meter, including buildings, roads and other facilities.

Market compositions

The market comprises 5 main buildings, two of them are of 2 storeys (ground and Mezzanine floor), ground floor is divided into outlets each of 174 square meters, including refrigerating area, front display area, and rear service area for loading and unloading. Mezzanine floor is divided into offices of the same area of the outlets. Both buildings where assigned for outlets only.

The third building is constructed on a gross area of 3078 square meter with special opened design with shading shields, containing 129 display areas for retail business. The fourth building is also designed to suit retail business, built on an area of 3078 as well, assigned for wholesale and retail business for local and Iranian imported goods.

The fifth building is constructed on an area of 5800 square meter, assigned only to sell imported goods brought by refrigerated vehicles.

The market comprises water reservoirs, electricity transformers, public toilets and units for vegetable and fruits wash. The sixth building is still under construction that includes cafeterias and official bureaus (police, customs, trade and industry chamber) soon there will be a mosque, more public toilets, garbage complex and freighting scale.
