This area is one of the earliest known gulf settlements and there are people living there today who can trace their ancestry right back to the earliest times.

Khalid Lagoon is an artificial lagoon of 1,720,000 square hectares of water surface. There is a water fountain feature in the centre of the lagoon. The Corniche side has aluminium fencing and the pavement area is landscaped with grass and palm trees. The pedestrian footpaths have a number of benches. The area is a popular meeting place, and walking around one can enjoy the many unique features of the Khalid Lagoon Corniche such as:-

Lagoon Corniche:

The Corniche extends to about 17000 feet (5 kilometers) surrounded by a green landscape that embraces the lagoon from all sides, the surrounding walking track is used for walking and running sports. The area around the lake is well lit making it convenient for all to enjoy day and evening leisure time around the lake.

Khalid Lagoon water fountain:

This water fountain reaches heights of 100 meters making it the third highest fountain in the world after Jeddah (KSA) Fountain 276 meters and a Swiss fountain of 130 meters. The fountain is surrounded with many different family attractions.

Sharjah Municipality has undertaken all the landscaping and planting works in the areas surrounding the lake. Being the third highest water fountain in the world makes, the water fountain is a unique landmark not only for Sharjah but also for the entire country and GCC countries.

The construction of the fountain was completed on 10th April 1984

Water fountain power station:

The station powers the third highest water fountain in the world. It is placed beside a traditional coffee place and restaurant on the lagoon edge. The power station includes two huge water pumps of 25 cc liters a second, with 2850 rpm; the opening line is 600 meters.

The pumps push the water to a height of 90 – 100 meters in normal atmosphere (without winds) and 76 meters under windy conditions.

Fountain water power timings:

The fountain is started at 4:00pm and closed at 10:00pm. When working it creates a delightful ambience and adds to the enjoyment of the visitors around the lake.

Colourfull aqua lighting has been installed all around the fountain, which features 6 spot lights of 1000 Watts in a 2 meters diameter circle and 8 spot lights installed in a circle of 4.5 meters diameter.
